During the last hours of the last parliament (April, 2019), the Coalition and Labor stitched a deal to essentially ensure no more MP’s are referred to the High Court – not just based on dual citizenship, but also on bankruptcy or criminality! It just smacks of arrogance – yet we get zero say in this. They have now made it not possible for an MP to be referred to the High Court if they disclose the matter. And to refer them requires a panel of THEIR COLLEAGUES to do it!
