The Auditor-General has raised concerns over the accountability of the governments $220M regional jobs scheme after the ministerial panel rejected 64 projects ($75.9M) that were recommended by government officials, and instead allocated $77.4M to 64 other (not recommended) projects. These 64 projects were not assessed in line with the program’s guidelines. So why? Why set up a process, with guidelines, then overrule it? Jobs (literally) for mates? Some projects that were funded but not recommended were in marginal seats. It stinks!
